Introducing Decorative Panel Routs: A New Way to Make Cabinetry Stand Out
Decorative panel routs have quietly become one of the most popular ways to personalize cabinetry. This small design detail has moved from niche upgrade to everyday request — and that shift has brought a steady stream of inquiries asking for something new.
Our Decorative Panel Rout program gives builders and designers a way to add intricate, die-cut-style detail directly into a door’s center panel.
What Is a Decorative Panel Rout?
Rather than a flat or raised panel, a decorative rout cuts an ornamental pattern through the panel itself — letting light, shadow, or a contrasting backing show through. It’s a small detail, but it changes the entire personality of a door. A plain shaker-style panel becomes a custom, furniture-quality statement piece.

The two doors above show the same basic idea executed in different woods and finishes. The first is Hard Maple in a soft, weathered gray stain with a delicate four-petal cutout centered in the panel. The second uses a deep brown stain with a more elongated, cross-like pattern. Same concept, two completely different moods — proof of how much a single design choice can shift the character of a kitchen or bath.
What’s Available
The new program launches with:
- Three decorative panel rout patterns to choose from in the collection
- Two standard panel locations for placement
- Four panel thickness options: 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, and 5/8″
That combination of pattern, placement, and thickness gives designers real flexibility to match a rout style to the scale and proportion of a specific door size or cabinet run.

Small Detail, Big Impact
Decorative details like this are rarely about function — they’re about signature. A rout pattern can echo a home’s architectural style, soften a modern kitchen with an organic shape, or add old-world character to a traditional space.
