Bridget’s Remodel Part 5 – Creating a Temporary Kitchen

Living without a kitchen can be hectic. During the demo and remodel, having a dedicated space that will act as your temporary kitchen is key – for your sanity and wallet! Here are my tips for setting up your own temporary kitchen…

  1. Pick a strategic location
    • Plan on setting up a temporary kitchen in a spot like your garage, basement or utility room (ideally, someplace with a sink)
    • Check for adequate outlets for plugging in small appliances
    • If you don’t have a dining room, and have the space, set up a table and chairs
  2. Create a temporary countertop
    • Lay plywood on top of a flat surface (i.e. cabinets, boxes, existing table) to have a work space and an area for small appliances, such as a toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker and electric kettle
    • Folding tables also work really well as countertops and storage
  3. Keep essential items handy
    • Such as paper plates and plastic utensils
  4. Keep your fridge until your new fridge is installed
    • Even if you plan to replace your existing fridge keep it for the construction phase
    • PRO TIP: Look into your town’s appliance rebate programs, since many towns offer rebates for buying energy efficient appliances and properly recycling your old ones!
  5. Set up a dish wash station – might be laundry area or bath tub but have a spot.

Meal prep

You don’t have to order out or go to restaurants every night during the demo!

  • Meal prep
    • Crockpot recipes are simple and easy (and can also be frozen)
    • Use air fryer and microwaves
