The last thing I want to do on the final blog is be cliché, but I really want to let everyone know what I learned and what I would have done differently. SO. here goes…
1. Service is Key
Some of you may think, oh since she’s in the business it must have been second nature for her to do this. However, the truth is, I was super nervous and questioned almost every decision that I made. After going through the renovation, I truly understand the importance of having a team like Metropolitan support you throughout the process. Having seasoned professionals giving me advice during each step, and walking me through the decisions, was priceless. I can’t tell you how much I have learned being on the other side!
2. Take Risks
True story – almost every person I showed my ceiling light fixture to said … oh, interesting. Even a friend with a little less of a filter said, “It looks like a space ship”. When I spotted it online, I instantly knew, in my gut, this was perfect for my house and I ordered it right when I saw it. After numerous comments I stared second guessing this piece, but in the end I trusted my initial instinct and I am so glad I did! This fun, unique statement piece makes me so happy every time I walk into the kitchen.
3. Find the Right Contractor
Having a contractor walk you through the process and be responsible for your job can (hopefully) provide you with peace of mind. I need to give a shout out to our awesome contractor, Paul Roe, who I loved working with on this project. Having a contractor set timelines, budgets and schedule subs was awesome for my mental sanity – especially for someone like me who has a full-time job and two young kids. Paul was continuously in communication with Metropolitan to schedule deliveries, templates and installs.
4. Things I Am SOOOO Happy I Did
- Quartz countertops – within the first week I had a moment when the kids spilled juice all over the countertops and then I remembered… it’s ok, it’s quartz!
- Full height backsplash – I love the sleek look and the easy maintenance.
- Gray cabinets – Love, love, love how the gray reflects the changes of light during different times of the day.
