Our Story
Metropolitan has grown significantly over the years, from a three-person company in 1984, into a leader in the cabinet and countertop industry with 230 employees today. Continuously evolving and expanding, Metropolitan has positioned itself as an innovative company in the kitchen and bath trade.
With third-generation family members now a part of the team, Metropolitan continues to reinvest in the company and its growth.
April 11, 1984
Our story begins with Stuart Elfland and his father Mike, who started Metropolitan Cabinets & Countertops in 1984 to provide high-quality products to the trade. This new family business was fueled by Mike’s kitchen cabinet sales experience and Stuart’s entrepreneurial spirit – and a lot of passion. Their first location is at 295 University Avenue in Westwood, MA
August 1989
To accommodate its growing size, Metropolitan moves to a bigger location at 345 University Avenue in Westwood, MA
September 1992
A second showroom featuring kitchen and bathroom designs opens in Watertown, MA
March 2003
The Metropolitan stone countertop fabrication shop opens
August 2003
Expansion prompts a move to our current headquarters at 505 University Avenue in Norwood, MA
July 2004
The third showroom showcasing Metropolitan’s kitchen and bathroom designs opens in Natick, MA
March 2005
The Metropolitan cabinet manufacturing shop opens at the Norwood headquarters
October 2014
A fourth showroom featuring the company’s cabinet and kitchen design offerings opens in Wakefield, MA
Spring 2017
MANUFACTURING EXPANSION
Metropolitan acquires the building next door to 505 in Norwood and expands the cabinet and countertop factory to 150,000 square feet! A new bridge connects the two buildings, housing new mill machinery and additional assembly lines.

Metropolitan Cabinets & Countertops celebrates an important milestone in April 2019 – 35 years in business!
August 2023
Our 5th showroom opens in Dorchester, with over 20 new displays!
40th Anniversary and Factory Expansion!
Coinciding with our 40th anniversary in April 2024, Metropolitan expands the factory an additional 25,000 square feet!
